At our most recent UCPA Board Meeting, we discussed several important legislative and industry updates that could impact chiropractors across Utah. Here are some key takeaways:
1. SB196 – Physical Therapists as Primary Care Providers
A proposed bill, SB196, aims to classify physical therapists as primary care providers in Utah. This could significantly impact chiropractic referrals, insurance reimbursements, and patient access. UCPA is closely monitoring this legislation to ensure chiropractic remains a vital part of patient care.
2. Massage Therapy Apprenticeships
A new rule allows massage therapists to apprentice under chiropractors, but it requires a defined end date or graduation requirement to maintain compliance. This could be a valuable opportunity for both chiropractors and massage therapists while ensuring proper training and regulation.
3. VA & Chiropractic Access
UCPA is actively engaged in conversations to increase access to chiropractic care within the VA system and ensure veterans receive the care they need.
4. Pay-to-Play Concerns
There is an ongoing legislative concern regarding unfair insurance and referral payment structures. The UCPA is working alongside Attorney General Brown’s office to address these issues and ensure chiropractors are not subjected to unethical or restrictive payment requirements.
UCPA continues to advocate for the chiropractic profession in policy discussions, healthcare reform, and legislative updates. Stay informed and engaged—your voice matters!
